Val Verde District Court Judge, Roy Calvin Mean, grew up on his parents' Texas ranch. He learned at a young age the power of the law when his parents battled Eminent Domain in the courts and nearly lost their property. Roy was a champion steer roper in his teen years, but also excelled academically. After graduating with honors from the University of Texas Law school he returned to Val Verde. He ran for and won his District Judgeship with an unorthodox ad campaign where he challenged the sitting judge to an arm wrestling match. The stunt brought him much admiration from his fellow Texans. The ongoing open challenge has seen the Judge win his last 3 elections unopposed.

Judge Mean likes to think of himself as tough but fair, and does not stand for dissent within his court. He sees himself as the master of his domain, and has a reputation for shooting down court motions with a stern glance until such motions are withdrawn. Push an issue and he gets quite ornery. His arrival to the EWA circuit came after a charity wrestling event which saw him get into the ring with a decorated Texas Marshall--all proceeds going to local public schools. However, Roy lost some points with the crowd after winning against what was considered a local hero. Many thought Mean would go easy since the event was seen as little more than an exhibition to raise money. But while he was unwilling to throw the match to the more popular figure, his looming presence and surprising physical ability garnered national attention.

Dividing his time between the bench and the arena, Mean will clear his docket for the right fight. In the ring he does not suffer fools, show-boaters or the disrespectful. He fearlessly stares anyone down, even those opponents who may have beaten him in the past. Afterall, as the Judge says, "Whatever doesn't kill ya, just makes ya meaner."
